The wholesale price index (WPI) rose to -1.53% for the week ended August 08, 2009 as against fall of 1.74% in the preceding week, led by rise in prices of primary and manufacturing articles. Though Inflation has been in the negative territory since last 10 weeks, on a week on week basis it has been rising. The WPI rose by 8bps during the week ended August 08, 2009. The prices of primary articles increased to 5.79% for week ended August 08, 2009 as compared to 5.17% for the preceding week. The prices of fuel items declined by 11.09% as against fall of 11.07% in the preceding week. The prices for manufactured products fell by 0.63% for the week, as compare to fall of 0.77% for the preceding week. Amongst the manufactured articles, the prices of food products, Non-metallic mineral products and Beverages tobacco & tobacco pdts, rose the most by 9.62%, 4.53% and 4.02% yoy respectively. While Basic metals alloys & metals products and Machinery & machine tools decline by 15.00% and 2.5% during the week. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~
