Market in a nutshell
§ The new financial year began on a positive note as the markets rebounded sharply from the days lows to end with smart gains with Nifty closing at 3060 (up 39 points) while Sensex ended the day at 9902 (up 193 points)
§ Nifty April Futures were trading in a range of 8-12 points discount for major part of the session but moved to parity levels towards the end.
§ The BSE Realty index gained 5.41% to close at 1,645 with HDIL rising 9.9% to INR 90 while the BSE IT index also ended higher by 3.17% at 7,358 with Aptech Ltd advancing 8.5% to INR 90.
§ Market breadth was positive with an Advance: Decline ratio of 3.6:1. Opto Circuits soared 15.7% to INR 116 while Bhushan Steel tanked 5.7% to INR 373.
§ Cash volumes were at INR 154,469 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 169,180 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 521,541 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 603,621 mn.
Eye Catchers
§ Wockhardt tumbled 11.3% to INR 76 with volumes of 6,609,039 (up 1000%) as the drugmaker sought to restructure its debt and said it is evaluating a recast of certain businesses and units, suggesting a liquidity crunch.
Market News
§ Nymex crude fell to trade at USD 48.45/bbl. Base metals were trading on a mixed note.
§ L&T bagged INR 12,450 mn Bhutan hydel project
§ Exports declined 21.7% in February
§ Coffee exports declined 20% in January-March
