Market in a nutshell
§ The benchmark indices extended their gains for the fourth consecutive session on funds buying. Markets opened with a positive gap on the back of positive global cues. Nifty closed at 3,257 (up 46 points) while Sensex ended the day at 10,535 (up 186 points). Barring FMCG and healthcare stocks, buying activity was witnessed in stocks across sectors led by capital goods, metals and auto.
§ Nifty April Futures were trading at a discount of 5-7 points in the beginning of the session which increased to 5-7 points premium as the session progressed.
§ The BSE Capital Goods Index rose 4% to close at 7,062 with Suzlon up 11% to INR 56. BSE Auto Index gained 3.5% to 3,280 with M&M up 14% to INR 480.
§ Market breadth was extremely positive with an Advance: Decline ratio of 3.7:1. Peninsula Land gained 15% to INR 29 while Nagarjuna Fertilisers was up 16% to INR 22.
§ Cash volumes were at INR 195,343 mn (NSE+BSE) as against a 5 DMA of INR 167,167 mn. F&O volumes were at INR 484,453 mn as against a 5 DMA of INR 559,016 mn.
Eye Catchers
§ Essar Oil was up 48% to INR 119, with volumes of 42,476,050 (up 1000%).
§ Chennai Petroleum surged 18% to INR 122 with volumes of 1,886,661 (up 526%).
Market News
§ Nymex crude rose to trade at USD 53/bbl. Base metals were trading on a firm note.
