90 percent of Chinese think India poses big threat

In a recent poll taken in China, 90 percent of the respondents said that India poses the biggest threat to its existence. The poll was conducted immediately after Global Times, the newspaper reported to have links with China's Communist Party, announced that India would send out 60,000 soldiers to the border with China in the midst of 'escalating tensions' between the two countries.

In the poll taken by a website, 74 percent respondents said that China should not maintain friendly relations with India after its 'military provocation.' Over 65 percent believed India's actions were harmful to bilateral ties which is more of a threat to India.

As per the Global Times report the tension along the disputed border between the two countries has increased recently after India's military move. It claims, the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that his government would make no concessions to China on territorial disputes. The report has also quoted Arunachal Pradesh Governor Retired General J J Singh saying, "The move was intended to meet future security challenges from China."

The Global Times report added that India is frustrated with China, "Another big Asian country, India is frustrated that China's rise has captured much of the world's attention. Proud of its 'advanced political system,' India feels superior to China. However it faces a disappointing domestic situation which is unstable compared with China's." Also India can't actually compete with China in areas like international influence, overall national power and economic scale which the country has not realized yet, the report added.
