[Investors Please Listen] Monsoon to be below average - Likely to affect agricultural growth

Agriculture, a crucial component for the country's economic growth, could be hampered this year if the Met Department's latest update on monsoon is to be believed. Taking a u-turn from its earlier prediction, the Met Department now forecasts a below normal monsoon. However, there is little chance of a drought like situation. The rains in the months of July-August are expected to make up for the initial deficit in the North West, the main grain-growing regions of Punjab and Haryana.

While the news could be a bit of a dampener, there is no need to press the panic button as yet. If the monsoon continues to play truant, then there is a potential problem.. Its time the Government start making contingency plans to keep the food prices under control.
